Archeology
The ancient town of Nora, just few kilometres away from Cagliari, is one of the most important archeological sites in Sardinia.
It was the very first Phoenician town in Sardinia (VIII century b.C.). Nora was then conquered by the Carthaginians until the Romas took over, making it one of the most important Roman centre in the Mediterranean Sea.
Inside its ruins, the Roman Theatre (currently the only one known in Sardinia) was the first monument to be discovered in Nora during the archeological dig in 1952.
The Roman Theatre has been restored several times and is now used as a venue for important cultural events such as the International Nora Jazz Festival.
